Planning Underway for July Mission Trip

Plans are starting to take shape for a mission trip opportunity at Casa Aleluya (Mike and Dottie Clark's children's home) in Guatemala! Up to this point, there have only been rumors of plans and possibilities, but now we have work being done and the ball is rolling. I can tell you that the cost per person at the facility we would be staying at would be $35 per day (which includes all meals, rooming, transportation from airport and back to airport, as well as transportation to Antigua for "an off day of touring"). I'm also working with a reliable travel agent to get us the best possible flight setup for the trip with the lowest cost. On your part, if you are interested in accompanying us on this wonderful trip/opportunity/experience, you'll need to start the process of getting a passport if you don't already have one. Immunizations are not required, but the decision to get them will be strictly up to you. Starting this week in the ROC, students will be able to sign up for the trip. I hope that you are as excited about this opportunity as I am, and I hope you will be "all in" as next summer approaches.

SPRING BREAK TRIP ANNOUNCED!!!

This year we're going to head back to Doe River Gorge in the Hampton, TN area.  We last journeyed there in 2009, and I have to say that it was one of my favorite trips/places to go.
The total cost of the trip (per person) is $300 before any fundraisers that we do.  It's highly possible for the cost to come all the way down to just the amount of the deposit required from each participant ($100).  This $100 will need to be turned in immediately so that we can mail in our group deposit and secure our retreat.
The retreat is unique in that we will have the entire complex to ourselves.  We stay in a multi-story lodge (boys separate from girls) and the bottom floor of the lodge has a meeting room for us to have group worship times each night.
Each day will be filled with team-building activities and challenges such as technical tree climbing, paintball, and rappelling.  Our group will be split into two smaller groups and we will be assigned to trained professionals to encourage us and help keep us safe at each activity.
The students will be signing up for this trip at the ROC starting this week, so please click on & download the following documents (release form & what to bring list) and print them out.
Once we get everyone signed up, I will host a meeting after church to discuss the trip and go over everything you'll need to know!  Please also consider chaperoning the trip... It really is a lot of fun! You'll make lots of memories and get lots of really cool pictures!

Autumn Night on the Farm

What a great night we had out at the Old Milo Tree Farms for our Autumn Night on the Farm this year!  We planned for 30-35 youth and we ended up with 57 youth!
I really appreciate all of the planning that went into it and all of the parents that provided food for the evening.  A big thanks goes to Brad & Lonni Davis for hosting us and making us feel welcome and showing us a good time!

See You at the Pole

See You at the Pole 2013 was a great success! The official number of participants at the high school is 81, while the early number at the middle school was 68, but that's not the final official count.  The leadership at the poles was outstanding and everything ran smoothly at both locations.
Jacob Hollis brought his guitar and he and Audrey Fitts and Selby Tucker led the group in some well-known praise songs.  There's nothing cooler to me than hearing teenagers lift up Jesus Christ in song first thing in the morning!
Kelbe Callaway and Makenzie Pierce led the students in prayer and Scripture reading as the students encircled the flagpole to pray.  I think more than ever before, these students seemed comfortable standing in a united front against any scheme of the enemy.
After the large group met together, the students broke into smaller groups to pray individually and specifically about certain things/people.  They ended the event by coming back together, linking arms around each other, swaying back and forth, and singing Light the Fire...
What an awesome experience!

GLOW NIGHT

Despite the extremely wet weather this past Friday night, we carried on with our plans for our glow-in-the-dark themed 5th Quarter called GLOW NIGHT.
The turnout was not so great, but we sort of invented a new game that ended up being extremely fun.  We blacked out all of the windows, in the gym and had a few black lights going while we split up into teams.  We formed two glow teams...Blue & Pink, and played Ultimate Frisbee with a glow-in-the-dark frisbee.  Each team member wore his/her team's color in glow stick necklaces, bracelets and regular glow necklaces.  We took skinny green glow necklaces and placed them on the boundary lines for the Ultimate Frisbee field in sort of a dotted line fashion.  Not long after we set this up, we realized how much it all looked like the movie TRON.  Thus, the game of TRON Frisbee was created!  So much fun...nobody wanted to go home!

We will definitely be doing this again!

What's New at The Source?

School is officially in full swing... With that comes an opportunity to get back in the flow spiritually and to make a new start.  At The Source, we can help you do that.  This year, we've added some new elements to our Wednesday night worship!
In addition to our new small groups, called Recharge Groups, we've added a competition that will take place all year between two teams... Purple or White.

Each person will be placed on a team and will help his/her team earn points throughout the year by bringing a Bible, bringing a friend, memorizing/passing off Scripture, and also competing in team challenges each week during our game time segment of activities!  Fun stuff!!
We've also added an "up-front" game time that will present itself on occasion that was created by and will be led by Selby Tucker & Audrey Fitts...

Here's some footage of last night's game... Egg Toss

So anyway, there are some really exciting things going on at The Source and I hope you will come join us and be a part of it this school year!  Don't forget to text @fbcha to 870-831-6557 for youth updates!!  See you soon!

"Recharge" Small Groups

Starting this Fall, the FBC Youth ministry @ The Source, will be adding a new and exciting layer to our ministry.  Each Wednesday night after games and worship, we will split up into small "Recharge Groups".
These groups will be led by adult leaders and college students who will be helping us this year!  I'm also going to be appointing a Reacreation Leader to be in charge games.  This person will plan games, relays, tournaments, etc. each Wednesday night during the game time portion of our program.
It's going to be a great year... I can't wait to see how God is going to move through the schools and through this youth group!

Xtreme Winter News and a Broken Bear

Students, while Erin and I were on the way home from Monroe yesterday, Erin noticed on Facebook that Bear Rinehart (lead singer for Needtobreathe) posted that he had an injury that required surgery and that he would be missing a few upcoming events.  Sure enough, when I got home, I noticed that Magic Springs was not on the tour calendar and magicsprings.com had also taken Needtobreathe off of their concert series list...
We will still continue as planned for YEC this weekend, but instead of jumping over to Magic Springs, we will eat lunch and head on home, so you'll need to make sure your parents know that we will be getting home much sooner than expected.
However, information was posted today about the upcoming Xtreme Winter Conference in Branson on December 27-29.  It's going to be an amazing lineup once again... Skillet, Third Day, for King & Country, Building 429, Jamie Grace... to name a few bands.  Speakers include David Nasser, Tony Nolan, Tom Richter, & Ed Newton!  This year, the cost will only be $100 instead of $120.  Make sure you get signed up at the ROC!!

New Stage & Lights

I've been working on the stage area in the youth room this week!  Got the logo painted in the back... now we're going to start working on getting the stage built.  Let me know what color you think it should be painted.  Some have said red, and some have said black.

I've also put in an order for some dmx LED stage lights.  They're small, but they pack a punch, especially for what we will use them for!  Anyway, can't wait to get it all set up... hoping to have it all done before the start of the school year.
